Boston (dbTechno) – A new U.S. government study has stated that each year, 7,000 children under the age of 11 are rushed to the hospital and need to be hospitalized in emergency rooms due to them taking cough and cold medicines.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention conducted the study and stated that the majority of the kids who had to be rushed to the emergency room of a U.S. hospital were between the ages of 2 and 5. Two-thirds of the cases were in that age group, while one-fourth were under the age of 2.
This comes just after the Food and Drug Administration has put out a formal warning to parents not to give small children cough and cold medicines.
The FDA stated it is unsafe for kids udner the age of 2 to take over-the-counter cough and cold medications.
Parents are being warned and urged to be very cautious with cough and cold medicines as they can be dangerous, especially if kids take too much in terms of dosage, and how often they take it. Many also develop allergic reactions.
