Double Dipping Is As Bad As Swapping Saliva
January 31, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to results from a new study done by researchers at Clemson University, double dipping is extremely bad for your health and is actually considered a major health hazard.
Double dipping with crackers, chips, and vegetables, and other snacks may quickly become a common practice this Sunday during the NFL Superbowl if you are not careful.
The new study has shown though that this can be an extreme health hazard. Bottom line, maybe you should keep your beer hand free to swat away any attempted double dippers in the crowd.
The study dates back to an episode of the TV show “Seinfeld” when George Costanza gets questioned when he double dips at a funeral.
Food microbiologist Paul Dawsom of Clemson University revealed that for every 3 double dips that take place, when a cracker or chip goes into dip, 10,000 bacteria get transferred from the person eating the cracker into the dip that continues to sit for everyone to enjoy.
Grossed out yet?
Dawson compared double dipping to kissing someone, as you are pretty much sharing saliva. So if you want to avoid swapping spit with your fellow football buddies, no double dipping!
The study will be published in the Journal of Food Safety.
