New York (dbTechno) – An Australian team of researchers has come out on Wednesday, going against the findings of American researchers a week ago. They have stated that they have found no evidence that aggressive treatment of diabetes in patients can increase their risk of death.
The new study was looking into whether or not patients with heart disease were at an increased risk of death from aggressive treatment of diabetes to lower blood sugar levels.
The new study contained double the amount of data which the American study contained.
The new study took 11,140 high-risk patients in Europe, Asia, Australia, and Canada and had them go through similar treatments that the American study went through.
The results show that there are “no confirmation of the adverse mortality trend reported from the ACCORD study,” “according to Dr. Rory Collins of the University of Oxford in England.
No other results from the study have been released with a more final report coming later in 2008.
One thing that is clear, and it is that much more research is going to have to be done before a consensus is reached.
