Swimming Pool Exercises Help Fibromyalgia Patients
February 25, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - New research has shown that swimming pool exercises in a warm pool can greatly help patients who are suffering from fibromyalgia.
This particular disease, fibromyalgia, is most common in women and causes a great deal of pain in your muscles. It also causes quite a bit of fatigue.
The study done by Narcis Gusi at the University of Extremadura in Caceres, Spain, as well as Pablo Tomas-Carus of the University of Evora, Portugal, looked at patients of fibromyalgia.
They took a group of 33 women who were suffering from fibromyalgia.
They had 17 of the women take part in swimming pool exercises in a warm pool three times a week for 8 months.
The second group did no swimmping pool exercises.
What they found was that those who took part in the swimming pool exercises had a much higher quality of life at the end of the 8 months, with far less pain.
Once the patients stop the program though they found that the pain does return.
