Boston (dbTechno) – Researchers at the University of Minnesota School of Public Health have found that teenagers who eat breakfast on a daily basis are more likely to stay slim and healthy, compared to those who skip breakfast. Eating breakfast has been linked directly to keeping teen weight down and fighting obesity.
The study looked at 2,216 teenagers in Minnesota.
They followed them for five years, watching their eating habits, lifestyles, etc.
They found that teens who ate breakfast regularly, on a daily basis, tended to weigh less and be more healthy.
There was a direct link to body mass index and eating breakfast on a daily basis. Teens who skipped out on breakfast weighed, on average, 5 pounds more than those who ate breakfast daily.
Kids who ate breakfast daily were also found to be more physically active, having a better diet.
The main point of this is the fact that teens will not lose weight by skipping out on breakfast. It will actually have a reverse affect according to the study, as skipping breakfast can lead to health problems, including a higher risk of obesity.
It seems to always be a good thing to eat breakfast in the morning, even to keep weight down and fight obesity.
The findings will be published in the March issue of the journal Pediatrics.
