Eli Lilly Facing Trial Over Zyprexa in Alaska

Boston (dbTechno) - The first jury trial has kicked off in Anchorage, Alaska. The trial is taking place, with Eli Lilly and its schizophrenia drug Zyprexa at the forefront of it all. The case against Eli Lilly is that they failed to inform patients and doctors of side effects of the drug.

Zyprexa is one of the most profitable drugs for Eli Lilly, bringing in billions in sales in 2007.

They may be in a bit of trouble though due to the suit filed against the company. The suit stated that the drug company failed to inform doctors and patients of dangerous side effects associated with the drug.

The suit is asking Eli Lilly to pay for medical expenses of Medicaid patients. These patients have all contracted either diabetes, or other diseases, linked to Zyprexa.

This could cost Eli Lilly hundreds of millions of dollars. The judge handling the case if Judge Mark Ridner, with the state of Alaska up against Eli Lilly.

Eli Lilly has been stating that the risks of its drug Zyprexa are outweighed by the benefits of it, treating schizophrenia and other disorders.
