Health Alert In Texas Following Diarrheal Illness

The Texas Department of State Health Services has reported that a health warning is now being put in place.  This comes after six cases of serious diarrheal illness appeared in the state.Austin (dbTechno) - The Texas Department of State Health Services has reported that a health warning is now being put in place. This comes after six cases of serious diarrheal illness appeared in the state.

The diseases have all been located in Bastrop County, Texas thus far. Authorities are stating that one child has already died from the illness.

It is caused by a shiga toxin which can be produced by various types of bacteria.

Lab tests are underway as they are trying to figure out the actual source of the diseases, but they stated that the shiga toxin illnesses are food borne most of the time.

One child that was sent to Dell Children’s Hospital has already died.

The disease consists of severe or bloody diarrhea.

Health officials stated that the number of cases in Texas each year is around 150. This year though this outbreak has more people than usual on alert.

Anyone with the symptoms is asked to go get medical attention immediately.
