Boston Joins With Trans Fat Ban In Restaurants
March 13, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - Boston has joined other cities, including New York City as well as Philadelphia, in the ban on trans fats. They have banned the artery-clogging trans fats from restaurants as well as grocery stores.
This is a huge step towards healthier eating experiences in the city of Boston.
Any oils and spreads that contain trans fats will not longer be able to be used.
This will be seen not only in grocery stores and in restaurant food, but also food served in schools, hospitals, etc.
The ban was unanimously approved on Thursday by the Boston city Health Commission.
The fines put in place are set at $1,000 per violation of the trans fat ban.
Trans fats have been partly to blame for the growing obesity problem in the United States. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, one in three U.S. adults is considered obese. This works out to well over 60 million U.S. adults.
