Dole Voluntarily Recalls Tainted Honduran Cantaloupes
March 30, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - Dole Fresh Fruit Co. has decided to join others in recalling tainted cantaloupes. These cantaloupes were imported from Honduras and are believed to be contaminated with salmonella.
There have been many people who have gotten sick since the salmonella outbreak began. The outbreak has now stretched to 16 states across the U.S.
There have also been cases reported in Canada as well.
Around 60 people in total have gotten sick thus far.
The FDA has decided to block imports of cantaloupes from Angropecuaria Montelibano, based in Honduras.
The FDA has confirmed that the link exists between the cantaloupes and salmonella. Because of this, many companies have decided to put recalls into effect.
Honduran officials on the other hand have been vehemently battling the FDA in this regard. They are asking the U.S. to compensate the company, stating there is no scientific proof that the fruit was infected in Honduras.
Dole stated that the voluntary recalls impacts cantaloupes which were sent out in the U.S. and Canada. They are packed in cardboard boxes with the labels “Dole” and “PRODUCT OF HONDURAS” printed on them.
More information on this vast recall is available as www.fda.gov.

It is alarmist and unscientific to called these Cantaloupes “Tainted” when they are still under investigation. Please refrain from conjecturing things that not even the FDA has said and think a bit about the consequences your loss adjectives may have in others.
