March 31, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - The distributor of Total Body Formula as well as Total Body Mega Formula has begun a voluntary recall of its dietary supplements. This comes as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration has put out a warning to consumers, stating that the dietary supplements are now known to cause major side effects.
The FDA stated that the adverse side effects which have taken place in patients include muscle cramps, diarrhea, joint pain, fatigue, as well as significant hair loss. The dietary supplements come from the Total Body Essential Nutrition of Atlanta.
The FDA is advising consumers to stay away from the products. If they have them in their homes already, the FDA has stated the best thing to do is to place them in the trash outside.
The recommendation as of right now is to not purchase the Total Body Formula in flavors of Peach Nectar, or Tropical Orange. The Total Body Mega Formula in Orange/Tangerine is also said to be tainted.
There have been 23 cases documented by the FDA thus far, citing this side effects.
It is not yet known what caused the effects, but the FDA is looking to a possible link between selenium and the effects. The FDA believes that too much selenium may have made it into the dietary supplements.
The states which sell the dietary supplements include California, Missouri, Alabama, Michigan, Louisiana, North Carolina, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, New Jersey, Virginia, Texas, and Tennessee.
