Diabetes Pill Actos Helps Slow Plaque Buildup In Arteries
April 1, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to researchers, the new diabetes pill Actos managed to slow the buildup of plaque in heart arteries of people with type 2 diabetes, as well as other cardiovascular disease.
The researchers stated that the new diabetes pill was more effective than an older diabetes drug known as Amaryl.
The study involved around 350 people with type 2 diabetes. Half of them were given Actos, while the other half were given Amaryl.
The results of the study, following a period of around 18 months, revealed that Actos managed to stop plaque buildup, and in some cases, even reverse it.
This compared directly to those taking Amaryl, who experienced plaque buildup continuing in their arteries.
The study was presented at the annual meeting of the American College of Cardiology. It was also released online on The Journal of the American Medical Association.
