Ignorance Gives STDs Upper Hand Over Teen Girls
April 2, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to the CDC, 26% of teenage girls have a sexually-transmitted disease. With April being STD Awareness Month, groups such as the American Social Health Association and the National Coalition of STD Directors are urging teens to get tested for STDs. The worst thing a teenage girl can do is be ignorant, and allow the STDs to gain the upper hand.
Every single year in the U.S. alone, there are 19 million new cases of sexually transmitted diseases.
This month, the American Social Health Association and the National Coalition of STD Directors are joining to raise awareness during STD Awareness Month.
The key here is for young people to get tested and do what they can to stay protected and safe.
The most common STDs include HPV as well as chlamydia.
Ignorance is something which must be avoided at all costs. This is because, if teen girls are not tested, the STDs can gain the upper hand on them. This can allow the infection to spread further into their body, causing a great deal of harm to their health.
The CDC, following their report on STDs in teens, has stated that those aged 25 should all be tested routinely for chlamydia. Women should also have regular Pap tests and HIV tests.
