GAO Calls Bush’s Child Health Insurance Policy Illegal
April 21, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to lawyers from the Government Accountability Office (GAO), the Bush administration violated federal law when it put a hold on the ability of states to provide health insurance for certain children.
The Bush administration ruled that restrictions had to be put in place on states’ ability provide health insurance for children in middle-income families.
This ruling is a major one as it shows support for many states who greatly opposed this plan by President Bush and his administration.
State officials have agreed that the Bush plan put forth has limited their efforts to provide health care coverage for children.
Many states have already filed lawsuits to challenge the ruling of the Bush administration. These states include Washington, New York, and others.
It will be very interesting to see where things go from here, but it is clear that this is the biggest challenge yet to the Bush policy.
