They have announced the discovery of a new drug which could stop the development of the disease.

The researchers have tested the drug on mice thus far, as well as fruit fly animal models.

They found that the drug managed to reduce the growth fo Alzheimer’s b y more than 50% in the brain.

The drug is a synthetic compound which targets how Alzheimer’s develops and progresses in the brain. It does so by targeting an enzyme, beta-secretase which takes part in the production of beta-amyloid peptide. Beta-amyloid peptide kills off brain cells, progressing Alzheimer’s.

Researchers are hopeful that this will lead to new and effective means of treatment of the disease, which impacts millions of people around the world.

The hope is that within a few years, they will be able to test the drug on humans.
