Shiny Lip Balm, Gloss Attracts Sun, Increases Skin Cancer Risk
April 27, 2008
New York (dbTechno) - According to a doctor from Baylor University Medical Center, shiny lip balms and lip gloss may actually increase your risk of skin cancer.
Dermatologist Christine White of Baylor University Medical Center at Dallas has stated that shiny lip balm and gloss increases your risk of skin cancer.
She stated that people do not realize the risk they put themselves in when they use the shiny lip balms and glosses.
When people use them, they are increasing light penetration through the lip surface.
The best advice and recomendation to avoid the increased skin cancer risk is to use a layer of SPF 30 sun protection under any shiny lip balms and glosses.
This comes as a recent study has revealed that less than 25% of Americans use some form of lip protection.
Lips are extremely susceptible to chronic sun damage and are more prone than skin to develop cancers.
The shiny balms and glosses don’t protect, they actually attract the sun.
