An Aspirin A Day Found To Cut Risk Of Breast Cancer
April 30, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to a new study, taking an aspirin each and every day helps women reduce their risk of developing the most common form of breast cancer.
The study was carried out by scientists at the U.S. National Institute of Health. They studied a total of 127,000 women to put together their report.
The women studied were all between the age of 52 to 72-years old.
They found that taking an aspirin a day could reduce the risk of breast cancer, in its most common form, by 16%.
The most common form of breast cancer is known as ER+ or oestrogen positive cancer. This accounts for 75% of all breast cancer cases each year.
The researchers found no evidence that taking an aspirin each day helped avoid other types of cancer.
They did though find that it reduced the risk of women developing the most common form of breast cancer.
The leader of the study, Dr. Gretchen Gierach of the National Cancer Institute in Maryland stated “Daily aspirin use appeared to offer some protection for ER+ breast cancer in this population.”
The study has been published in the journal Breast Cancer Research.
