Once Kids Become Obese, Fat Cells Make Them Obese For Life

This means that if a child eats too much and becomes obese, it would make it harder for them to lose weight once they get older. Basically once they become fat, they are more likely to be fat for life.

The researchers in Sweden found that these cells, called adipocytes, can last an entire lifetime in a child as he or she grows up and goes through adulthood.

These fat cells do die, with new cells forming, but the numbers do not change after the kids grow to adults.

The basic belief is that it is very important for children to remain or normal and healthy weight throughout childhood so that they do not get stuck with too many fat cells as they head into their life as an adult.

The lead researcher, Kirsty SPalding of Karolinska Institute in Stockhold stated that the main message is to “be careful what you feed your children. Do everything you can to make sure you don’t blow out your fat cell number when you are young.”
