According to authorities on Monday, the number of cases in China is now above 6,300 with the death toll up to 26 children.

The EV-71 virus has caused thousands in China to become very sick. The virus causes an extremely severe form of hand, foot, and mouth disease.

Symptoms include fever, mouth sores, and rashes. The disease is easily spread which allows the virus to grow at a rapid pace. It can be spread just by sneezing or coughing.

The hardest hit thus far has been kids around the age of 10-years old or younger.

The latest death has been reported in the province of Zhejiang, with almost 1,200 kids becoming sick in that province.

There is currently no vaccine or treatment for the virus.

The World Health Organization expects the disease to peak in June and July, meaning it could get worse in the coming months.

The other big concern at this point is the Beijing Olympics and if the virus will have any threat to hampering the playing of the games.
