77 New Hepatitis Cases Linked To Las Vegas Clinic
May 9, 2008
Las Vegas (dbTechno) - There have been 77 new hepatitis C cases linked to treatment from a Las Vegas outpatient clinic.
The 77 people who have been diagnosed with hepatitis C are former patients of the Endoscopy Center of Southern Nevada.
These new cases add to those who have all tested positive for the potentially fatal virus, hepatitis C.
The outbreak at the clinic went public back on February 27 of this year, and has since quieted down a bit, until now.
Authorities are not sure as of yet how these people were actually infected, but each were treated at the clinic between March 2004 and January 2008.
Gov. Jim Gibbons called the new cases “heartbreaking and disturbing.”
The total number of cases linked to clinics run by the same doctors is now at 85. Gibbons stated he wants the Board of Medical Examiners to make sure that the physicians who took part in this “aren’t practicing medicine while these investigations are ongoing.”
