Teen Marijuana Use Worsens Depression, Leads To Suicide

Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new report released by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, teenagers who suffer from depression and use marijuana are at a higher risk of developing mental health problems, such as an advanced form of depression, anxiety, as well as suicide.
The report released on Friday is called Teen Marijuana Use Worsens Depression: An Analysis of Recent Data Shows “Self-Medicating” Could Actually Make Things Worse.
Marijuana is a growing problem among teens in the U.S., as more teens use marijuana than all other illegal drugs put together.
The report states that teens who suffer from depression are twice as likely to become dependent on marijuana compared to teens who are not depressed.
It also stated that teens who suffer from depression and use marijuana more than once a month are three times as likely to have suicidal thoughts, compared directly to teens who do not use marijuana.
The report states that there is a clear link between depression and teenage use of marijuana. This combination has been found to be a potentially deadly mix.
Teenage use of marijuana was linked directly to other mental health problems including anxiety, schizophrenia, and more.

This is ridiculous. The title alone first implies that marijuana causally worsens depression, then states that it “could”; correlation is not causation, as any Intro to Logic class tells one.
Moreover, I don’t believe one word that comes out of the Bush-Cheney administration. $50 says this report is debunked within a year.
Reports like this are the reason Obama will be the next President. People are sick and tired of the government’s cynical drug policies and the lies they use to justify them. Their shameless propaganda simply alienates most people.
Someone likened Obama’s appeal to a “dog whistle” that only younger people can hear. When he said that U.S.’s drug war was a “failure” my ears certainly perked up. Hopefully this latch-ditch effort to demonize a legitimate medicine is one of the last we will see. I can say without flinching that by the time the baby-boomers are completely retired U.S. drug policy will be unrecognizable by today’s standards.

I agree with the other posters about the uselessness of the study, which was out of the White House thought this article does not mention that.

Another set of lies from the White House. People who seek solace from depression seek marijuana, prozac, alcohol, etc. Those that do have suicidal thoughts do so not as a result of taking anti-depressives, but do so as a result of their depression! The Govt takes this fundamental fact and twists it to state that it is the drug that causes suicidal thoughts. How much do we (the taxpayer) pay these criminals to misinform the public?
Another silly “study” that will not stand up under meta-analysis; a study of the study. If this were done but won’t be it will reveal that the people doing the study are not really studying the situation but rounding up confounders and including them in the study to convince people that marijuana use is an agent of the devil, causing anti-social behavior like not cleaning their rooms and losing interest in everything but getting the next taste. I know many users whose pads are spotless and they find time be productive citizens. I’ve been smoking hemp for fifty years and it hasn’t produced any depression nor has it done that to all of the people I know who regularly smoke a bone. However, I have seen a whole lot of people who medicate themselves with alcohol and you couldn’t find a more depressed (and depressing) bunch if you searched for a long time. But it’s legal and will stay that way because Big Brother has an enormous investment in the production and distribution of theis most dangerous of all mind-altering substances

marijuana has little or no addicting proporties what so ever. i myself was a teen suffering from depression and smoking bud has gotten me through those tough years. secondly where are the sources for this? if you have no creditable sources then you made them up. stop spreading your right wing republican propaganda you fascist ass
