Families who believe that a mercury-based preservative thimerosal found in many vaccines causes the development of autism are set to make their case to a federal court..Boston (dbTechno) - Families who believe that a mercury-based preservative thimerosal found in many vaccines causes the development of autism are set to make their case to a federal court.

Autism is a developmental disability which usually appears in children during their first 36 months.

Around 5,000 families in total have filed claims stating the vaccines caused the development of autism.

The families are going to be going up against many medical experts who have stated that there is no direct link between the mercury-based preservative and the development of autism.

Attorneys representing the families will be using two 10-year old boys from Portland, Oregon to showcase the link.

They will show the federal court that the two boys were developing normally until they were exposed to vaccines with the mercury-based preservative, thimerosal.

Over the course of the past few years, many pharmaceutical companies have begun the process of taking thimerosal out of their vaccines intended for children.

Many medical experts state though that there is no link between the preservative and the development of autism.
