Salmonella Outbreak Linked Directly To Dry Dog Food

Boston (dbTechno) - A recent outbreak of Salmonella infections in 19 states across the U.S. has been linked to tainted dry dog food. This comes as the CDC warns to be safe around pet food, by washing your hands, and keeping infants clear of it.

The revelation came about in the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report put out by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

This is the first investigation to link dry dog food as the source of the Salmonella outbreak, which is infecting humans.

Investigators believe that this should raise concerns over the dry pet food we have in our homes, as it can easily carry human infections.

The largest number of cases from the outbreak have been reported in Pennsylvania, New York, and Ohio, with the first cases being confirmed in May 2006.

The CDC stated in the report that a study looked into various brands of dry pet food, and found one plant in Pennsylvania which was the source of the outbreak.

Two brands of the dry dog food were recalled to stop the spread of the disease.

The recommendation by the CDC to always wash your hands after touching pet food.
