Study Disputes Myths About Teenage Sexual Tendencies
May 20, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new study, it is not common for teenagers to take part in oral sex just so that they can save their virginity.
The study was carried out via a federal survey which looked at more than 2,200 teens, split up between males and females. All who took part were between the ages of 15 and 19-years old.
They found that teens who stated they were virgins did not commonly take part in oral sex.
Teens who stated they were virgins were found to be less likely to say they have tried oral sex compared to teens who have had sexual intercourse.
This goes against the common belief that oral sex is extremely common among teens, especially as a replacement to sexual intercourse at younger ages.
Researchers stated that teens who took part in sexual intercourse were 4 times more likely to engage in oral sex, and 20 times more likely to engage in anal sex, compared directly to teens who were virgins.
The belief, based on the survey, is that the best way to address this problem is through abstinence education.
