Washington (dbTechno) – According to a new study, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects children just as much as adults, as it causes adults to lose over 20 work days each and every year.
The research was led by Dr. Ron de Graaf of the Netherlands Institute of Mental Health and Addiction. The study included 7,000 employed and self-employed workers between the ages of 18 and 44.
It was found that 3.5% of workers had ADHD, and that it was more prevalent in men than in women.
ADHD can cause major problems with adults as it causes them to forget things, lose their concentration, hurt their organizational skills, etc.
It can also hamper their behavior emotionally, socially, and in other aspects.
The study looked at ADHD in adults and found that, on average, the disease forces an adult to lose 22.1 days of work each and every year.
It also forced them to miss work completely 8.7 days each year.
Researchers are recommending that employers help out their staff, and get them treatment if they are affected by ADHD, as it could save them money in the long run.
