Las Lomas (dbTechno) – Residents in Las Lomas are being told to stop drinking water for now as officials have detected extremely high levels of mercury in their supply, putting many residents at risk.
The high mercury levels were discovered in a water tank which was vandalized over the weekend.
The goal now is to figure out how to handle the water supply.
The Monterey County Sherriff’s Office has already notified some 3,000 residents about the tainted drinking water.
The California Water Service Company has stated that they should not drink the water until further notice.
They are investigating the incident which took place over the weekend, and are working hard to solve the problem.
Mercury in water can cause major health problems to adults, including cardiovascular disease and neurological symptoms.
