The American Academy of Dermatology has come out and stated that there are over 1 million new cases of skin cancer that are diagnosed each and every year.

Over 75% of all non-melanoma skin cancers are caused by exposure to the UV rays from the sun.

It is important to protect yourself while you are out and about this summer.

The biggest recommendation is to use water-resistant sunscreen which has an SPD of 15 or higher.

The sunscreen must also protect from both UVA and UBA rays.

The important areas to hit with the sunscreen include your ears, neck, lower legs, feet, hands, and face.

The sunscreen should be put on around 30 minutes before going out, and every two hours after that.

Another way to help protect yourself is to avoid the sun at its peak times, between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.

Over 11,200 people die from skin cancer each year, though the survival rate is 95% when it is caught early enough.
