Study Shows Vitamin D May Prevent Heart Attacks
June 9, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to a new study, vitamin D, also known as the sunshine vitamin, may help prevent heart attacks.
A study looked at more than 18,000 men over the age of 40 for a period of 10 years.
They found that the men who had low levels of vitamin D had more than double the risk of developing a heart attack.
They were also more likely to die of a heart attack.
This compared directly to men who received the recommended daily intake of vitamin D, which is set at 200 units until age 50, 400 until age 70, and the up to 600 units.
The research found that vitamin D plays a major role in blood vessel health, blood pressure control, and more.
The researchers believe that the recommendations needed to be increased further.
The study was carried out by the Harvard School of Public Health.
