Health officials have stated that this is a clear and dangerous problem to have as this could lend to the spread of HIV.

There is also the chance that the virus could be spread further to newborn babies.

The study found that 26% of people in New York have genital herpes.

It was more common among women, black people, and gay men.

The virus is sexually transmitted, with symptoms including genital ulcers and sores.

The study stated that genital herpes doubles the risk of contracting HIV.

The study has been published in the journal Sexually Transmitted Disease.
