Washington (dbTechno) – Republicans in the U.S. Senate voted to block a bill put forth by Sen. Max Baucus, a Democrat from Montana. The bill aimed to try and fix Medicare.
The bill aimed at stopping a scheduled a 10.6% cut in Medicare payments for doctors over the course of the next month.
Reports from supporters of the bill have come out and stated that doctors are already saying that they will not accept new patients covered by Medicare as the payment schedule is too minimal.
Once these 10.6% cuts go into effect, even more doctors will likely be pulling out.
Baucus plans to introduce the bill again before the cuts go into effect on July 1, 2008.
President Bush has threatened to veto the bill if it is passed.
