The study was carried out by the University of California researchers.

They looked at the sleeping patterns of 2,226 men and women over the course of 60 years, monitoring their sleeping, daytime habits, napping, etc.

They looked at tendencies of men and women, such as the fact that adults over 65 have a bit of trouble falling asleep. In the age group, 13% of men and 36% of women took more than 30 minutes to fall asleep.

In terms of aging, what they found was that out of the entire group, 20.8% of the women were considered to be successful agers as well as good sleepers.

The leader of the study, Sonia Ancoli-Israel stated that it is very important to get a good night’s sleep if you want to age well.

Researchers also noted that as people get older, they tend to get tired earlier at night, but wake up earlier in the morning.

A lack of sleep was linked to depression, memory problems, etc.

The study was presented on Wednesday at SLEEP 2008, the 22nd Annual Meeting of the Associated Professional Sleep Societies.
