CDC Recommends Testing Artificial Turf Fields For Lead

Boston (dbTechno) – The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have come out and stated that it is time to test turf fields for lead, in fear of the fields causing a public health crisis.

The CDC has put out an alert stating that these turf fields which are old and beaten down can contain high levels of lead that can pose a health risk to people.

The newer artificial turf fields are made out of only polyethylene fibers, which have low lead levels.

The area of concern though is with older artificial turf made out of nylon or nylon/polyethylene blend fibers.

As these older types of turf get worn down, they release lead in the form of dust.

This lead can then in turn be inhaled or ingested, increasing the risk of harmful exposure.

The CDC has only recommended to test the artificial turf fields that are worn. Those at highest risk are children under the age of 6.
