June 25, 2008
New York (dbTechno) - According to a new survey conducted by the New York City Health Department, people in New York are having unsafe sex at an extremely high rate.
The New York City Health Department looked at data from 2006 and found out some pretty alarming numbers which all relate to having unsafe and unprotected sex.
They found that more than 50% of all pregnancies in New York City in 2006 were not planned, and that more than 60,000 new sexually transmitted diseases were confirmed.
In 2006 alone, there were over 3,700 people who were diagnosed with HIV for the first time.
In terms of how many partners the people of New York had, 11% stated they had more than 1 partner in the last year.
Comparing men to women, men were 3 times more likely to have multiple partners.
Young adults are also 4 times more likely than older adults to have multiple partners.
60% of these New Yorkers who had multiple partners stated they used a condom the last time they had sex.
The scary thing about the numbers though his that 43% of the people in New York who are in a serious relationship with someone, have reported having another partner in the last year.
The survey was released by the New York City Health Department’s Bureau of Epidemiology.
