CDC Reports Increase In HIV Cases Among Younger Gay Men
June 26, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - According to a new report released by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the number of HIV cases among young gay men has increased in a big way.
The CDC stated that from 2001 to 2006, the largest transmission category for HIV in the U.S. was between male-to-male sex.
This has led to a major increase in the number of HIV/AIDS cases diagnosed.
Gey boys and men aged between 13 and 24-years old saw the biggest increase in HIV cases.
The CDC is stressting that testing is important, as they can greatly reduce their sexual behavior to stop transmission if they know they are HIV positive.
During the study period, there were over 200,000 cases diagnosed.
The CDC released their findings in their weekly journal, the Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report.
