Microsoft, Google Agree On Privacy Standards For Health Records

Washington (dbTechno) – Microsoft and Google, along with several consumer groups have all agreed on a set of privacy standards in regard to electronic personal health records.

The framework for these standards has been nearly 2-years in the making.

The two major tech companies, along with doctors, hospitals, consumer groups and more w orked on these standards.

The idea behind the privacy standards is to allow for growth in the use of personal health records online.

The framework now in place includes things such as allowing consumers to see who is looking at their records.

Consumers can also prevent insurers, employers, and others from demanding to see the records.

These privacy standards will be enforced by federal and state consumer protection laws.

Other major companies who have agreed to the standards include CIsco Systems, WebMD, Health Corp, and others.
