Chicago (dbTechno) – According to the latest figures from the Iowa Department of Public Health, the total number of STDs confirmed has resulted in a record high in the state of Iowa.
Records levels of sexually transmitted diseases such as Chlamydia, Gonorrhea, and Syphilis were reported in 2007, as many are shocked as the numbers come out.
In total, there was a 67% increase in the reported cases of Chlamydia over the last 10 years. 74% of these cases were of people in Iowa who were between the age of 15 and 24.
In terms of Gonorrhea, there has been a 19% increase over the past 10 years. 60% of these cases were from people between the ages of 15 to 24.
Lastly, the number of Syphilis cases reported saw a 52% increase over the last 10 years, with 52% of cases consisting of Iowans between the age of 35 to 55.
Since HPV and other STDs are not reported in the state, many health officials feel these numbers could be even higher.
