Airlines Stop Sick Kentucky Girl’s Trip To China For Treatment
June 30, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - Miranda Goraflo and her 5-year old daughter Hailey, both from Kentucky, were not allowed to board a plane to Beijing, China. The 5-year old girl was being brought to China to receive stem cell treatments for a potentially fatal genetic disease.
According to reports, the mother has stated that two different airlines both deemed the 5-year old girl to be too sick to fly.
Air China and Air Canada both stated that she was too sick to fly this week. She was stopped during a layover in Vancouver, British Columbia.
Doctors are now planning to send her back to Louisville, Kentucky on a medical flight after she was treated in a hospital in Vancouver for seizures.
The mother though has stated that her daughter was not unfit to fly, and was disgusted that they were allowed to get that far, only to be stopped.
Doctors in China carry out stem cell treatments to help children with diseases such as this.
The girl, along with her 3-year old brother both suffer from a disease known as Late Infantile Batten Disease. There is no cure for it, and the disease can be fatal as it takes a toll on the mind and body of the children.
The family managed to raise over $75,000 for the trip to China, and they also planned to take their son for treatment in August.
They are not done yet though, as they continue to try to get the daughter to China.
