Doctors Across U.S. Push Senate To Block Medicare Pay Cuts

July 7, 2008

Doctors across the U.S. are making a major push this week to pressure Senate Republicans to side with Democrats in blocking a planned 10.6% cut to payments to Medicare doctors.Washington (dbTechno) - Doctors across the U.S. are making a major push this week to pressure Senate Republicans to side with Democrats in blocking a planned 10.6% cut to payments to Medicare doctors.

These Medicare doctors take care of millions of older Americans each and every day, but could face a serious cut in their pay if the Senate does not pass the bill to reverse the cuts.

Congress returns to work this week with the Medicare bill high up on their to do list.

There have been a series of radio and television ads putting pressure on the Senate to pass the bill.

The ads were run by the American Medical Association, and urge them to pass the legislation to stop the cut.

Just before the Fourth of July recess, the House passed a bill to block the Medicare pay cut. Senate Republicans did not follow suit though.

The cut went into effect July 1, but the Bush administration delayed putting in into effect until Congress could come up with a decision.
