The research found pregnancy rates decrease, and miscarriage rates increase when a father is over 40 years of age.

The study was carried out by French scientists, who looked at over 21,000 intrauterine insemination (IUI) cases. Over 12,000 couples were involved in the study in total over the course of 5-years.

When IUI is done, the sperm is specially treated and then inserted directly into the uterus.

The sperm was examined for sperm count, motility, and morphology.

What they found was that when men were over the age of 40, the pregnancy rate decreased by nearly 10%.

The same can be said about miscarriages, as those rates increased when men were over the age of 40.

The findings will be presented at the 24th annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Spain.
