Cervical Cancer Vaccine Gardasil Linked To Teen Paralysis
July 8, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - Gardasil, the cervical cancer vaccine from Merck & Co., has been linked to the paralysis of a 13-year old girl, as well as two other teenage girls.
Gardasil was approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in June 2006, and was said to be between 90% to 100% effective in preventing the transmission of certain strains of the Human Papillomavirus (HPV) that cause cervical cancer.
Just a few weeks ago, the FDA stated that they could not yet approve the use of Gardasil for women aged 27-45.
According to a news report from the US News and World Report, 13-year old Jenny Tetlock began to show signs of the degenerative muscle disease about a month after she received the vaccine Gardasil.
Within 15-months, the teen girl from California was virtually paralyzed.
Merck, as well as the FDA have yet to acknowledge that the vaccine is linked to paralysis in any way.
This is not the only case either, as two other teenage girls have experienced paralysis after being given the vaccine Gardasil. Both have suits pending against Merck.
