Originally, it was believed by the FDA that the source of the salmonella outbreak was tomatoes. Later, after weeks of investigating, they stated that tomatoes were actually safe, and were not the cause of the problems.

The FDA now has confirmed that the outbreak is likely from ingredients in fresh salsa found in restaurants.

They have stopped all produce shipments from Mexico of jalapeno peppers, serrano pepeprs, scallions, and bulb onions.

On top of that, the FDA is also now testing all imported produce at the border.

The total number sickened, according to the CDC, is now around 1,000 across 40 states.
