Men Who Are Obese, Or Have Diabetes Face Fertility Problems
July 11, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to a new study, men who are obese or have diabetes can face fertility problems.
The study conducted was based on nearly 5,500 men over a period of 17-years.
Researchers found that men who had a body mass index of over 30% has 60% less seminal fluid than men of normal weight.
These men also had 40% higher cases of sperm abnormalities compared to men who were of normal weight.
The believe that this is because the fat tissue has an impact on the metabolism of sex hormones.
They concluded that obese men produce faulty sperm, with more abnormalities.
The study was presented at the 24th annual conference of the European Society of Human Reproduction and Embryology in Barcelona, Spain.
