Medivation Alzheimer’s Drug Shows Great Promise In Study
July 18, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - A study has shown that a new Alzheimer’s drug from the company Medivation Inc. actually helps improve the symptoms of Alzheimer’s disease patients.
The experimental drug is known as Dimebon, and was studied for a period of over a year.
What researchers found in the study, which involved 183 patients at 11 different sites throughout Russia, is that it managed to help in a big way.
Patients who were treated with the drug showed improvement in Alzheimer’s disease symptoms compared to patients taking a placebo.
The drug continued to allow patients to experience improvements over a full year.
Medivation now expects to expand the study to over 500 Alzheimer’s patients, and seek U.S. and European approval by 2010.
The study is being published in the journal The Lancet.
