NYC Restaurant Chains Must Post Calories, Or Face Fines
July 19, 2008
New York (dbTechno) - New York City restaurant chains must now obey a new rule requiring them to post calorie counts on their menu, or they will face fines.
The New York City Health Department put the law in place back in May, but there was a grace period to allow restaurants to have extra time to comply.
That grace period is over though as restaurant chains such as McDonalds, Burger King, and others need to change their menu boards.
Many chains did follow suit, changing everything on Friday to avoid the hefty fines.
Starting Saturday, restaurant chains with 15 or more locations around the U.S. will face fines of up to $2,000 per store if they do not display calorie count information on their menus.
