Scientists Create Human Blood Vessels In Lab Mice

July 19, 2008

Scientists have come out and stated that they have managed to create human blood vessels in lab mice...Washington (dbTechno) - Scientists have come out and stated that they have managed to create human blood vessels in lab mice.

Stem cells taken from the blood system of adult humans, or the umbilical cord blood can now be injected into mice, and from there formed into blood vessels which can be used with the heart.

Researchers hope that one day, this will replace heart surgery as they will simply be able to fix the blood supply to the heart and damaged organs using these cells.

In the future, this could prove to be a way to repair parts of organs who are not receiving enough blood, or have been damaged by heart attacks, etc.

The team pronounced that they did not do any type of genetic changes, they just let the adult cells do new things and they came together on their own.

This new method will need to be proven safe in more animals before it is tested on humans.

The news came out of the Harvard Medical School and is published in the journal Circulation.
