Mississippi Ranks As The Most Obese State In The US
July 21, 2008
Boston (dbTechno) - According to the results of a survey carried out by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Mississippi is the most obese state in the U.S.
Mississippi has managed to have the highest obesity rate every year since 2004, and continue to hold their lead.
According to the new CDC report, the most obese states appeared to be in the South, with rural residents and black women with the highest prevalence of obesity.
Mississippi is not alone though, as West Virginia, Alabama, Tennessee, and Louisiana all have an obesity prevalence of over 30%. This means that over 30% of adults living there fit the category of being obese.
Many attribute this to the fact that a typical Southern diet is made up of high-fat items, with lots of fried foods.
The best state in the U.S., with the lowest obesity prevalence rate was Colorado at 19%.
