Washington (dbTechno) – According to a new study published in the journal Human Reproduction, eating soy foods may lead to a reduced sperm count.
The study was led by Dr. Jorge Chavarro and was conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health, and looked at the diets of 99 men in total.
All of the men visited a fertility clinic with their partners to give a semen sample as well.
The men in the study were split up into four groups, depending on how much soy they ate in their diets.
They then compared the sperm concentration of men eating the most soy, to those eating the least amount of soy.
Researchers found that there was a huge difference in the sperm concentration in men who consumed low amounts of soy, and those who consumed high.
On average, men who ate soy foods every other day had sperm concentration that was far below those who did not eat soy.
Scientisits believe that this was caused due to chemicals in soy known as isoflavones.
