The study was led by Prof. Benjamin Wolozin, and was presented at the annual Alzheimer’s conference in Chicago.
The drugs which were most effective were known as angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs), as they were found to actually slow the progression of Alzheimer’s disease.
The study was carried out by researchers at the Boston University School of Medicine.
Their conclusion was that these blood pressure drugs were found to cut the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease by 40%.
This could lead to new hope for elderly people to avoid the onset of Alzheimer’s disease and dementia.
