FDA Warns Consumers Maine Lobster Tomalley May Be Toxic
July 29, 2008
Washington (dbTechno) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning in regards to Maine lobster tomalley, stating that it may be toxic and pose a serious health risk.
Maine lobster tomalley comes from the body of the lobster, and appears to be a green-looking substance.
The FDA has stated that typical lobster meat is not affected in any way, as it is perfectly safe.
The warning issued by the FDA is to avoid eating Maine lobster tomalley, due to the fact that it may be toxic.
This comes after a red tide took place from New England to Canada this year, contaminating where fishing takes place, increasing toxin levels.
Symptoms you may experience from eating Maine lobster tomalley that is toxic include headache, nausea, and muscle weakness.
For now at least, it may be best for you to take Maine lobster tomalley out as an option if you go out for seafood, as even cooking the tomalley does not rid of the toxins.
