UN Report Reveals Decline In AIDS Deaths For 2007 Worldwide

Boston (dbTechno) - According to a new report released by the United Nations, the number of deaths from AIDS fell worldwide in 2007.
The fight against HIV / AIDS appears to be working, as more and more people around the world are able to gain access to drugs that help them control the HIV virus, and prevent AIDS.
According to the report from UNAIDS, 2.7 million people contracted HIV last year, while the number of overall deaths from AIDS dropped by 10%, to around 2 million people.
The total nunmber of people living with HIV last year was at 33 million, compared to 32.7 million in 2006.
Nations in Africa and abroad are now doing a much better job of getting drugs to those in need, to stop the spread of HIV, the virus which causes AIDS.
The UN report showed that even though the overall infection rate is now stable, there is still no decrease since the year 2000.
AIDS continues to be the leading cause of death in Africa, and continues to be a major worldwide health issue

It is clear though following this United Nations report that the fight against HIV and AIDS is progressing, and much move forward.
The report was issued ahead of the AIDS Conference, set to open in Mexico City on Sunday.
