FDA Approves First Generic Version Of Abbott Seizure Drug

Boston (dbTechno) - The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has approved the first generic version of the anti-seizure drug Depakote from Abbott Laboratories.
The FDA stated that the new generic version is an exact copycat, and is far cheaper than the real brand-name Depakote.
The drug is known generically as divalproex sodium, and will carry strong warnings on its label.
The warnings associated with the drug include thing ssuch as birth defects, as well as risk of liver damage.
The drug is an anti-seizure drug which is aimed to help those suffering from epilepsy.
It was also approved recently to treat bipolar disorder, as well as migraine headaches.
Several have now been cleared to market the generic version of the drug, including Novartis and Teva Pharmaceutical Industries.
